I'm working on one eye at the moment. This morning, Shirley's usual dog-walking companion wasn't available, so I joined her. I've been on previous visits, so knew it was likely to be lengthy. Two hours later we returned home. The morning walk is along the edge of a canal, up into fields at the top and eventually through a forest before descending back to the canal and home. We had 7 dogs with us this morning and they are all allowed off their leads.
I rounded up the stragglers (well, I tagged along at the back) and whilst in the woods, one of the dogs charged past me, clearly in some distress. He seemed to be swiping at his face with his paw and then biting at his leg. My immediate thought was "adder bite" - as, evidently was Shirley's she afterwards admitted ... but decently I solved the puzzle by suddenly being stung between the legs, right in the fattest juiciest part and twice on the wrist.
Some 12 hours later I'm still feeling the effects in my wrist and note a red inch wide streak making its way to the bend of my arm. And then about 6 hours ago, I suddenly was aware that my left eye was stinging and feeling 'stiff' and when I eventually checked it, I'm now sporting a fatter eye than when Rebecca Stack did her surgery, bloodshot eyeball and general discomfort.
I've taken 2 antihistamine tablets and am hopeful that by the morning it will be a memory only. It's probably got a lot to do with the fact that the cold I caught late last week has turned into a humdinger - a 5 tissue boxes variety - so I'm reporting it NOW just in case it doesn't stay long enough for me to mention it tomorrow.
Might I just say, however, that bees in Wales HURT!
I enjoy being here with the family. I hope that they can say the same thing when I leave.
